Tapar. A Spanish Verb

It all started in the south of Spain.
The bartenders in Andalucia would put small plates on top of the wine and beer glasses.
The plates would tapar the glasses.
To stop the flies getting in.
Then the bartenders got the idea to add a little jamón serrano or fried octopus onto the plates to hide that fact. 
Clients thought the bartenders were being very generous.
And Spanish tapas were born.
